Under what
circumstances can you sublet your whole HDB flat? |

Subletting of
the whole flat may be allowed. Flat owners must be under one
of the following circumstances: |

- living
in quarters provided by the employer |
|
Owners are living in quarters provided by their employers
or their spouses' employers and their family members are
also living with them. |
|
- working
or studying overseas |
|
Owners are working/studying overseas or accompanying
their spouses overseas to work or study and their family
members are going with them or they leave behind family
members who cannot take care of themselves. |
|
- living
in commercial properties |
|
Owners or their spouses are tenants, subtenants or owners
of commercial property with livin quarters and they have to
stay there to look after the business together with their
family members. |
|
- other
circumstances |
|
Owners are single occupiers who are sick or physically unfit
and they need to stay with their relatives elsewhere to be
taken care of. |
|
Owners are single occupiers and they require hospitalisation
for more than six months. |
|
Owners are deceased and have left behind a minor child. The
guardians or public trustee may sublet the whole flat. |
|
Do you need
to get HDB's approval to sublet your whole flat? |
|
Yes, owners who
are eligible to sublet their whole flat must get written
approval from their HDB branch office before subletting
their flat. |
|
Owners who
sublet their whole flat without HDB's prior permission will
be penalised under the Housing & Development (Penalties)
Rules. HDB may also take back their flat. |
